To boost surveillance in Ludhiana, which is one of the most populated cities of north India, surveillance cameras would be installed at different locations in the city early next year.
In the first phase of the project, 25 high-resolution cameras would be installed.
In the next six months, entire Ludhiana would be covered under the project and 1,200 cameras would be installed at 150 locations across the city.
A demonstration was given by police at Dandi Swami Chowk where cameras have been installed. Senior police officials were present at the site to witness the functioning of the cameras. After the completion of the project, Ludhiana will become the first city in the north to be entirely covered under the digital eye.
Under the project that was initiated in August this year, cameras would be connected with the internet and a control room would be set up where officials would be able to witness the happenings of the entire city.
Deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Narinder Bhargav said under the safe city project, the police would be able to monitor suspicious movement of people at different locations.

{{/usCountry}}He said these CCTV cameras would be able to provide safety to the residents at public places and elsewhere. “It would help the police to easily crack down on anti-social elements in any part of the city only by seeing dubious activity on the screens at control room,” said Bhargav.
High-resolution cameras would be able to view the number plates of the vehicles and faces of the people. The cameras would also help in detecting traffic violations by anyone.
Bhargav said a staff of 20 police officials would monitor the cameras installed in the city.
