Help came, but too late. The maggot-infested nameless patient, who had been writhing in the washroom of Amritsar’s Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, breathed his last on Saturday morning.
“He breathed his last at 7.30 am in the morning. He was in the orthopedic ward. We have handed over his body to the police,” medical superintendent Dr Ram Sarup Sharma said.

The man was admitted to the hospital by a social worker with the help of Majitha Road shopkeepers after they found him sitting on the roadside on Thursday.
The foul smell emanating from his body had made other patients in the orthopaedic ward uncomfortable.
“The hospital doesn’t need money for nameless patients but people to take them into their care. We are short of manpower to deal with our rush,” Ram Sarup Sharma had earlier said.
