It was a rare moment at Punjabi University, when Majithia and Brahm Mohindra shared the stage at the National Fencing Championship. Majithia was the chief Guest while Brham Mohindra was present there as president of the Punjab Fencing Federation, the host of the event.

When mediapersons asked the Patiala Rural MLA regarding Capt Amarinder's elevation to CWC, Brahm Mohindra who was sitting next to Majithia, left the venue by saying that, "I won't reply political questions today."

Majithia, however, tried to persuade Mohindra against leaving the press conference.

To another question regarding the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls, Majithia expressed confidence that the NDA was set to make a comeback with a landslide victory in the general elections. He said the SAD-BJP combine would win all the 13 Lok Sabha seats in the state by registering a resounding victory over their opponents.

Brahm Mohindra later said he was at the press conference as the host and head of the federation. "So, I decided to leave the press conference when the media started asking political questions."

Meanwhile, at the press conference, Majithia demanded that in view of the huge loss to human life, property and infrastructure in Uttarakhand in the recent cloudburst and floods, the union government should declare it a national disaster. He claimed that the Punjab government has mobilised maximum resources to help the Uttarakhand government in supplementing the rescue as well as evacuation operations.

Majithia defends PR dept, govt

Revenue minister Bikram Singh Majithia, who also holds the charge of the information and public relations department, defended his department over controversy surrounding the Uttarakhand issue. He said the department did it best to communicate the information to public.

Replying to a query that why state helicopter was not used to rescue stranded people for a few days, Majithia said nearly 100 helicopters were available for the rescue operation but in view of limited airspace and given the fact that highly experienced teams should be put on the job, the Air Force choppers were given preference in the evacuation process.

He appreciated the unparalleled role the Indian Army and other forces like ITBP and national disaster management units played in the rescue operation.

Majithia also condemned the attack on senior IAS officer from Punjab, Kahan Singh Pannu, who, he claimed, worked relentlessly for the safe evacuation of pilgrims stranded at Gobind Ghat and Gobind Dham.
