In an informal interaction with the media here on Thursday, Makkar claimed that the government had already carried out certain amendments in the board’s constitution with the motive of increasing its influence in the managing committee (board) of the Takht.

He claimed that the government was keen on appointing Tara Singh, a Maharashtra Sikh, as chief administrator of the board that manages the affairs of this Takht. He made it clear that this move would be opposed as Tara Singh was not a member of the board.

Tara Singh is a member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). “As per rules, only a board member can be appointed its chief administrator. An outsider cannot hold this post,” he added.
