The traders in Sunam, Sangrur, Malerkotla and Dhuri also participated in the shutdown while many schools declared holidays as a precautionary measure.

According to reports, schools and markets remained closed in Barnala as well.
While protests erupted in Malerkotla as many organisations gathered to carry out march towards civil hospital mortuary where victim Vidhu Jain's body has been kept.

Heavy security arrangements have been made to avoid any untoward incident. All entry points towards city are sealed.
Senior superintendent of police Mandeep Singh Sidhu said that heavy police forces are deployed to maintain law and order across the district.
No arrest has been made so far.
