Man beats up divorced wife to death

A man killed his divorced wife Paramjit Kaur in a densely populated Mohalla Nungawan (ward no 2) of this town on Tuesday.

A man killed his divorced wife Paramjit Kaur in a densely populated Mohalla Nungawan (ward no 2) of this town on Tuesday.

The incident took place when the deceased's former husband went to meet her for paying alimony as directed by the court. They had heated arguments following which the accused beat her up and the victim died at a hospital while undergoing treatment.

Jaswant Singh, SHO, Bassi Pathana police station said that victim's 22-year-old daughter, Gurpreet Kaur, in her statement to the police said that her mother divorced her father Shamsher Singh about 10 years ago. She said the victim was living with her daughters in a rented accommodation in the area and his father used to come to pay the monthly expenses as directed by the court.

She said her father had come to their house on Monday night and added that there were heated arguments between the two on Tuesday morning.

She said that her father beat her up with a stick laced with chilly powder and salt and later attacked her with a knife on the head and throat. She said when she raised her voice, he fled from the house immediately.

The police have registered a case of murder against Shamsher Singh and launched a manhunt to nab him.
