The convict Saajan abducted the girl from Pinjore's Rajjipur village on April 22, 2013. An FIR was registered at the Pinjore police station the same day. Finally, the the girl and Saajan were traced to a Bihar village.

On July 30, 2013, as soon as the girl reached Panchkula, her medical examination was conducted confirmed rape.

Further medical tests in August 2013 confirmed that the girl was pregnant. The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), on behalf of the victim, moved an application for abortion, which was allowed. However, the DNA of the foetus did not match with Saajan.

On January 30 this year, the court held Saajan guilty of rape, kidnapping and also under Section 4 (for penetrative sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. After that Saajan filed an application where he produced a birth certificate from his home district Madhubani (Bihar), stating him to be juvenile.

However, investigations proved that the certificate was fake.
