A local court awarded three years jail and a fine of Rs 12,000 to a man on Tuesday for forging the Airtel logo in his emails to lure people with fake job offers.
The court of civil judge Parveen Kumar sentenced Arvind Goyal, a resident of Panchkula, to three years in jail under Sections 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 419 (punishment for cheating by personation), 467(forgery of valuable security, will etc), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), and 471 (using as genuine a forged) of the Indian Penal Code and also imposed a fine of Rs 12,000 on the convict. The sentence will run concurrently.
The case was registered at the Sector-34 police station following a written complaint by Ramanpreet Singh, relationship executive, Hero Mindmine Institute, Sector 34, Chandigarh, who looked after the business development and placements here on October 1,2009.
He had alleged that on August 31, 2009,he received a call from Arvind Goyal, who claimed to be assistant manager store operations and planning from Bharti Airtel Ltd and was looking after the company’s Karnal office. It was stated that Goyal required customer care executive backend operations and trainees and hence contacted Ramanpreet Singh. Ramanpreet alleged that he, therefore, shared his official email id details and asked him to send the requirement over the mail. On the same day, he received an email from Arvind Goyal’s personal gmail email address with a proposal for manpower requirement for Bharti Airtel operation which carried a logo of Airtel.
Believing this, the complainant exchanged regular emails and correspondence with Goyal and arranged the same. Goyal conducted interviews and selected two women candidates from SAS Nagar. Goyal even visited the complainant’s office in Sector 34 on September 9 in 2015.

{{/usCountry}}On their selection, he asked the two selected candidates to deposit Rs 5,000 each in his ICICI bank account and they did it. Post this, when the job candidates tried to contact him about the joining letter, Goyal stopped taking their calls.He even ignored the complainant’s text messages and in between responded stating he would revert whenever he comes to their Chandigarh office for another round of interview with candidates.
Getting suspicious, Ramanpreet Singh visited the main Airtel office in Chandigarh IT Park and met Ayesha Sagar, HR managar and Jai Abhilash, head legal and regulation, inquiring about the matter. After he showed them the emails carrying the Airtel logos,the officials realised it was a case of cheating and forgery confirming that the logo was ‘fake’. Following which the complaint was filed.
