Man held for exhorting money from couples in city parks

A man impersonating an assistant sub-inspector (ASI), who used to allegedly extort money from couples sitting in city parks, has fallen in police net. The accused has been identified as Jagtar Singh alias Monu (30) of Mohalla Guru Nanak Pura, Sultanvind road of Amritsar.

A man impersonating an assistant sub-inspector (ASI), who used to allegedly extort money from couples sitting in city parks, has fallen in police net.

The accused has been identified as Jagtar Singh alias Monu (30) of Mohalla Guru Nanak Pura, Sultanvind road of Amritsar.

The accused used to introduce himself as ASI Satnam Singh, reader to Nilambari Jagadale, additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP) City-1.

The police recovered two gold chains, a ring and six mobile phones from his possession, besides a police uniform.

According to ASI Praveen Randev of CIA staff of Ludhiana police commissionerate, the police arrested the accused from Nehru Rose Garden on Wednesday evening.

He used to visit city parks and allegedly extorted money from young couples there threatening to implicate them.

The matter came to light after a woman, who had fallen victim to the accused, approached the police.
The woman, a resident Karabara, had alleged that she visited Rakh Bagh last week with a friend. There the accused extorted Rs 2,000 in cash from her atfter threatening to implicate her.

Randev said more information was expected from the accused during questioning.
