Ironically, the aim to become teacher led a candidate to resort to cheating and hire an impersonator. In a major catch during the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Surinderpal Singh, a Tarn Taran resident, was nabbed while appearing in the exam on behalf of Jaspal Singh at Police DAV Public School on Sunday.

During the exam, school principal Shabnam Handa along with the centre observer found that Surinderpal Singh was appearing in the exam for a candidate. The suspicion arose when they found that the picture of the candidate on the attendance sheet did not match with the one on the admit card in possession of Surinderpal.

"The attendance sheet came to us directly from the CBSE and it carried the picture of Jaspal Singh. However, Surinderpal Singh had put his picture on the admit card, which he carried with him for appearing in the examination," said the principal.

The school authorities immediately contacted police and handed over Surinderpal to them. A case under Sections 419, 420, 466, 467, 468, 471 and 120-B of the IPC has been registered at the Civil Lines police station on the complaint of principal Shabnam Handa.

The CTET is conducted to select the prospective candidates who want to apply for the job of a teacher for Classes 1 to 8. Clearing the exam is essential for appointment as a school teacher.
