The deceased were identified as Rajbir Singh (30) and his daughter Harshpreet Kaur alias Khushi — residents of Gainda Colony in Nandpur village of Sahnewal — with the help of their identity cards recovered from the spot.

Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Raghvinder Singh, incharge, Government Railway Police (GRP), said, “Despite identification, police failed to trace their kin. However, police managed to get contact number of Avtar Singh, who claimed to be the deceased’s uncle. He is expected to reach Ludhiana for identification of the deceased on Monday. Their bodies have been kept in the mortuary of civil hospital.”

“Rajbir Singh, a truck driver, was married to Nisha of Katihar in Bihar. They had two daughters Harshdeep Kaur (10), Harshpreet Kaur (8) and a six-month-old son,” the ASI said.

Singh said, “Preliminary investigation revealed that relation between Rajbir and Nisha were strained. So, she left home with their elder daughter Harshdeep Kaur and son on Friday. Depressed over her leaving the house, Rajbir took the extreme step.”
