A man allegedly murdered his two daughters and later consumed poison at Jasraor village in the district. The man, identified as Anand Kumar (35), a migrant worker, has been hospitalised.

The bodies of the two girls, one three-year-old and the other a year younger, were found near the village bus stop on Monday morning.

Amritsar (rural) senior superintendent of police (SSP) Jasdeep Singh said, “Villagers spotted the bodies of the two children. After verification, it was learnt that village resident Anand Kumar had allegedly strangled them to death late on Sunday night. When cops tried to nab him in a field, he consumed a poisonous substance and was rushed to a hospital.”

The SSP said Kumar had confessed to the crime. He further said, “Kumar’s wife had died a few days ago. He informed police about it, following which he was allowed to perform her last rites. There are allegations that he murdered her. We will investigate the matter.”
