Man sentenced to 10 years for drug peddling

The court of additional district and sessions judge on Friday awarded 10-year imprisonment to Deepak Kumar, alias Deepu, of of Basti Danishmandan on charges of drug peddling.

The court of additional district and sessions judge on Friday awarded 10-year imprisonment to Deepak Kumar, alias Deepu, of of Basti Danishmandan on charges of drug peddling.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on him, failing which he would have to undergo one-year extra jail. The accused was arrested with 150 gm intoxicant powder during a naka near Ram Sharnam Temple in Basti Danishmandan in November 2012.

The court awarded five-month imprisonment to Lakshami Narayan Tiwari of Arjun Nagar, on charges of drug peddling. Tiwari was arrested by Navi Baradari police on October 20 last year near Madan Flour Mill Chowk and recovered 50 gm intoxicant powder from him.

The court also awarded one-year jail to Manoj Kumar of Dana Mandi, who was arrested on April 4 last year and recovered 160 gm intoxicant powder from him.
