Surveys for carpeting of internal roads were conducted in all four zones - A, B, C and D, of the municipal corporation and the DPR and the estimate is for roads that more than 18 feet wide or above.

Some of the roads that are crying for repairs are in Urban Estate, Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar, Model Town, Singh Pura, Industrial Area, Kochhar market, Jawahar Nagar, Punjab Mata Nagar, old city areas and others.

Potholed surfaces of these roads are the cause of frequent mishaps and lead to wastage of fuel as well. The issue has been discussed in political circles as well with Congress councillors taking up the issue of the potholed roads in the House.

Additional commissioner Ghanshyam Thori said, "We have sent the estimated cost to the government. As soon as we get the funds, the recarpeting of internal roads in all zones will start. We are also working on preparing a detailed project report for recarpeting the Mall Road, the Club Road and the road outside Kaka Marriage palace," he said.

"The MC needs to use better technique for carpeting for roads. Frequent damage to the roads can be a headache," said Rattandeep Singh, a resident of Gill Road.
