Municipal corporation (MC) pays Rs 1,500 per month to each park management committee for the maintenance.

The residents are also demanding to increase the maintenance funds for the city parks.

According to members of Sri Guru Harkrishan Sahib Welfare Society, they have been waiting for the funds for the past 10 months.

“We were last issued funds for the park maintenance only in October 2013,” said Prem Lata, president of the society.

Another member said, “We also renewed the agreement this year and I visited the MC office several times but to no avail. The MC should also increase the limit of funds for maintenance of parks.”

Sources in the civic body said some of the PMCs had not got funds since March.

They also said shortage of funds with the municipal corporation was also one of the reasons behind delay in issuing funds.

According to an official, “The online system that was introduced around six months ago was one of the reasons behind delay in issuing the funds. Now, the funds have been released and more than 50 PMCs have received them.”

Executive engineer of horticulture wing of the civic body Surinder Kumar said, “The funds are being released timely. There could be a possibility that some committees had not got funds for the last three to four months as they had not renewed their agreements this year.”
