MC to fine A2Z for not lifting garbage

If A2Z group fails to lift garbage from the dumps within six hours after receiving any complaint, the municipal corporation (MC) will impose a fine on it.

If A2Z group fails to lift garbage from the dumps within six hours after receiving any complaint, the municipal corporation (MC) will impose a fine on it.

As the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan will be launched on Thursday, the MC has pulled up its socks to ensure lifting of garbage from various dumps timely.

To deal with any emergency, the MC has also formed a team to lift garbage from different areas if A2Z teams fail to do it.

Sources said the MC was getting complaints that the garbage was not being lifted timely from the dumps.
The MC pays Rs 395 to A2Z for lifting of per tonne of garbage, but if A2Z fails to lift garbage within six hours after receiving any complaint then the MC will impose a fine of Rs 790 for lifting of per tonne of garbage. The MC would then lift the garbage. The city has 269 identified dumps.

Chief of MC’s health and sanitation wing Amarjeet Singh Sekhon said, “The step was taken to ensure timely lifting of garbage from the dumps. If we receive any complaint regarding non-lifting of garbage from the dumps then we will direct the A2Z to lift garbage within six hours otherwise it will face fine.”

It has been lear nt that additional commissioner Ghanshyam Thori had also pulled up A2Z to ensure lifting of garbage from the dumps. Some residents had also raised the issue at sangat darshan that was conducted by deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal.

Jagjeet Singh, an environment activist said, “Non-lifting of garbage from dumps is a major issue in the city. Though the MC will start Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, it should ensure lifting of garbage. The MC should also take steps to remove the dumps which are near to residence areas."
