Punjab governor and UT administrator, VP Singh Badnore said, “Media should not indulge in yellow journalism and should publish news based on facts and truth.”
Badnore, was speaking during the seminar on role of press, police and politician to include values and ethics for maintaining universal brotherhood and peace in society organised by Press Club, Mohali, at the auditorium of Indian School of Business (ISB) campus in Sector 81.
Badnore said,“Media is recognised as the fourth pillar of democracy and it plays a prominent role in strengthening it.”
Governor said,“Media has to remain vigilant for the rights of public and should bring truth before them.” He said that paid news is a concern for all of us as it brings false twisted facts. He said that media should refrain themselves from paid news.
Local MLA, Balbir Singh Sidhu, said that the seminar will lead to a positive outcome.
Municipal corporation mayor, Kulwant Singh, said that politicians should perform their duties by differentiating the good and bad and by devoting selfless service to live upto the sentiments of the people.
The five speakers during the seminar were chairman, Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB), Maninder Singh Bains, inspector general of police (anti-terror squad, Punjab), Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, professor Manjit Singh, Panjab University, Chandigarh, chairperson, Punjab state woman commission, Paramjit Kaur Landran, and senior journalist, Dinesh Sharma.
Earlier, president press club, Hillary Victor, welcomed the guests. During this conference, representatives and members of press club were also present.
