A meeting regarding making Ludhiana smoke-free was held at Community Health Centre in Sahnewal here on Monday.

Senior medical officer (SMO) Dr Parvinderpal Singh Sihdu along with private and government organisations of Sahnewal attended the meeting, wherein representatives from schools, restaurants, dhaba, marriage palaces, hotels and government offices were present.

Dr Sidhu asked the organisations to curb the practice of smoking in public places.

He said restaurants had to make a smoking zone for visitors and those found violating norms should be fined.

He said no tobacco product would be sold within the radius of 100 metres of educational institutions and religious organisations.

He also asked the government officials and the heads of schools to issue challan on people who smoke in public.
