The event, held at the Sector 78 stadium, was organised in three categories- below 16 years, opens for all and above 45 years.

“It’s Sunday and chilling cold but we have come here to participate in the marathon only because it’s for a good cause, ”said an SAS Nagar couple, Neetu and Sanjay Sharma, who ran in the above 45 years category.

For each category, the race had a different length. While athletes had to run five kilometres to finish the race in the open category, children below 16 years had to run 1.6km, and above 45 years had to run for 3.5km.

The first prize winners were given Rs 10,000, while second and third prize winners got the cash prizes of Rs 5,000 and Rs 3,000, respectively.

Though a massive crowd cheered for the runners, the main crowd-pullers were the athletes in above 45 years category, who ran in full spirit and won hearts.

“I loved running here today. It is the best way to stay fit and healthy and I felt so good, ”said 51-year-old Shamsher Singh, who won the second prize in the above 45-years category.
