The deceased, Vikas Prabhakar, was a resident of Pritam Nagar. He was into hosiery business, along with his father, Arun Prabhakar. Vikas got engaged on June 22.

The body, which bore no injury marks, was sent to civil hospital for autopsy.

Suspecting death by some poisonous substance, the doctors sent the viscera for chemical examination to forensic science laboratory in Kharar.

After recovering his motorcycle from banks of Sutlej river, Vikas's father Arun Prabhakar had lodged an FIR against his four friends, Yogesh of Kundanpuri, Karan, Chhota Karan and Rinku on June 23.

In his complaint, Arun had said, “Vikas, along with his four friends, had gone to celebrate birthday of their friend, Lucky Verma, at Kwality restaurant around 8:30 pm on June 21. There Vikas entered in a clash with Yogesh, Karan, Chhota Karan and Rinku over a petty issue of distribution of food. The accused had also assaulted Vikas.”

Later, the divers fished out a swollen body on Monday afternoon and alerted Vikas's father, who identified the deceased as Vikas.

Meanwhile, the police rounded up all four suspects and started questioning them.

Additional deputy commissioner of police (ADC) City-1 Nilambari Jagdale, assistant commissioner of police (ACP) (north) J Elanchezhian and inspector Vinod Kumar, station house officer (SHO), Division Number 4 police station, reached the spot.

Inspector Kumar said no injury marks were found on dead body. “The police are investigating the matter and would take appropriate action after investigation,” he added.

Vikas was the eldest among two sisters and two brothers.
