The farmers, visiting the market these days in large numbers to sell their produce, rued that even after years of its existence, they were made to keep their produce in the open as there were no sheds.

The farmers said the situation got worse whenever it rained as the crop was damaged which led to huge losses.Harjinder Singh, a cotton grower from Jhumba village near here, said neither were there sheds in the market nor did the farmers get drinking water or a proper place to sit and rest.

"Let aside the issue of poor price of cotton crop that farmers are getting this season, two days ago when the weather became cloudy in the evening, farmers had to cover their crop immediately with tarpaulin only because the market committee hasn't set up sheds in the market," he said.
