Ram Kumar Chaudhary, Congress legislator from Doon in Himachal Pradesh; his wife, and son are in some birthday-party pictures retrieved from Jyoti's handset. The SMS and picture evidence from the device were part of the supplementary charge sheet in the case and the basis of making Jyoti's ex-boyfriend Simmy of Jalandhar a witness.

Simmy has told the police that in 2011, he was in relationship with Jyoti but broke up with her when she got involved with the Congress politician. The CFSL director confirmed that the data had been deleted but not purged. The charge sheet suggests that after deleting the data, Chaudhary threw this handset into the Ghaggar river but a slum dweller recovered it and handed it to the police.
