The civil surgeon said that the Punjab government had decided to waive all charges of health services provided by the MMUs. “The decision is in the interest of the general public, especially the under-served population living in remote and rural areas,” he added.

The Gurdaspur MMU takes medical facilities to people on all days except gazetted holidays. Each unit comprises of a doctor, a nurse, a radiographer, a lab technician, a helper, and a driver. It has infrastructure for OPD services, laboratory tests, x-rays scan, ECG examination, besides medicine stock. Nearly 50 people a day availing themselves of its services in the district.
