Moga MLA, former DGP's men clash over truck union control

Members belonging to the two factions in the local SAD unit, owing allegiance to sitting SAD MLA Joginderpal Jain and former Punjab DGP PS Gill, pelted stones at each other and fired shots over taking control of the truckers' body, here, on Wednesday, injuring three people.

Police intervention brought the situation under control, sources said.

Eye witnesses said that the clash started at around 3.30 pm, when SAD MLA Joginder Pal Jain reached the truck union officer with his supporters, while the former DGP PS Gill was not present.

Both the groups have accused each other of pelting stones and firing in the air, police said.

Both the factions have been at at loggerheads for the past over seven months to take control over the truck union.

Heavy police force had been deployed in Moga city in advance as it was apprehended that the two groups might clash with each other, police said. The situation is under control and the matter is being probed, they said. The injured have been declared out of danger.

Moga SSP Kamaljeet Singh Dhillon said that as soon the police received a complaint in this regard, heavy force was deployed at the Moga truck union office.

"Both the groups have accused each other of pelting stones and firing in the air. However, investigations are on. The police will not allow breach of law and order. Now, the situation is under control," said the SSP.
