Protesting against erratic water supply to Dalit colonies as well as other parts of Bahona village here, agitated people staged a dharna with empty pots outside the waterworks on Thursday.
Residents claimed that they had not been receiving water supply for over 15 days and had raised the issue several times to no avail.
Led by the Ranjit Kaur, a social worker, a large number of women raised slogans against the state government.
Pendu Mazdoor Union leader Jagraj Singh alleged that poor people could not even get drinking water from the reverse osmosis (RO) system inside the Bahona village as the pipes had been damaged.
"Pipes have been damaged and motor of the waterworks have been order for about a week. We have put our grievance to the gram panchayat and public health office, but nobody has come forward to listen our problem so far," he said. Jasvir Kaur and Pal Kaur, both residents of Dalit colonies Bahona, added that the women were forced to collect water a km or two away from their homes.
Social worker Mandeep Singh said that a major reason for the non-supply of water was that some people did not bother to pay their bills.

{{/usCountry}}When contacted, deputy commissioner Arshdeep Singh Thind, said, "I will discuss the matter with the residents of Bahona and with officials of the public health department. The problem will be resolved soon. An SDM will also inquire into the matter on Friday."
