Officials privy to the investigation said the victim’s husband was held in connection with an alleged sex racket, which was being run by main accused Sunny and Avtar.

Sources in the police department claimed that husband of the 21-year-old and Sunny were in touch and added that as per call details, he and Sunny even had telephonic conversations nine to 10 times from July 15 to July 18, when the incident happened.

Panchkula DCP Rajendar Kumar Meena said, “We are investigating the sex racket angle in the case. At this point of the investigation, we cannot divulge more details. It will be shared once we are done with our probe.”

This comes a day after the Haryana Police transferred Panchkula assistant commissioner of police (ACP, women) Mamta Sodha and women police station house officer (SHO) Rajesh Kumari.

ASI Saraswati posted at the women police station, Sector 5, was suspended over turning away the victim when she approached her with a complaint on July 19.

The role of inspector Rajesh Kumari came under the scanner after the suspended ASI claimed that she was acting on the orders of the SHO.

As many as eight other people, including the accused’s aides and clients, have been arrested so far.
