Employees staged protest rallies against the state government at various divisions including the Sunder Nagar and grid maintenance divisions.
Zonal secretary of the technical services union of the PSPCL, Ramesh Kumar, said they were demanding an increment for Class-4 employees from November 2011, whereas the government had given the increments from January 2013, which was unjustified. Around 4,000, out of a strength of 5,000 employees, participated in the strike, he added.
State president of ministerial services union of the Punjab State Electricity Board, Harbhajan Singh, said the strike was observed across Punjab. He threatened the employees would intensify their agitation, if the government failed to implement their demands.
