"The 36-km Chandbhan drain has been cleaned for the first time since it was dug up in 1961 at a cost of `18 crore. Besides, its banks have also been levelled," said Muktsar deputy commissioner Jaskiran Singh.
Over `28 crore is being spent to clean the main drains while another `11 crore is being spent to clean other link drains of 590-km length in the district, the DC added.
"The work is going on at a fast pace and will be completed before the monsoon season sets in," the DC added.
