Describing FDI in retail very beneficial for the people of Punjab, the North American Punjabi Association (NAPA) leaders urged the state chief minister Parkash Singh Badal not to oppose the centre's decision.

Disclosing this in a statement issued here on Tuesday, association president Satnam Singh Chahal and chairman Dalwinder Singh Dhoot said that FDI in retail will be very good for the state of Punjab, especially for farmers, if it is implemented by framing proper rules and regulations with the objective of safeguarding the interest of farmers.

Describing the FDI in retail very beneficial for the people of Punjab NAPA leaders said that after the implementation of FDI in retail in Punjab middlemen will be eliminated from marketing, Firms will purchase products directly from farmers and will boost efforts to diversify farm sector.

They said that retail chains can source items from Punjab to other parts of the world. They appealed to the state chief minister Parkash Singh Badal to review his stand on the issue as the latest economic reform would eliminate the middlemen, thereby helping both the producer and consumer.

Concluding the statement NAPA Leaders said that according to them FDI in retail in India will boost the efforts to diversify the farm sector. Such multi-brand retail chains can also source many items from Punjab to other parts of the world, thus benefiting the manufactures, they said.
