NGO files complaint with Child Rights body against schools

NGO 'HELP' has filed a complaint with the Punjab State Commission for Protection of Child Rights against Mount Carmel School, Garhshankar and in Hoshiarpur for violating the Right to Education Act, 2009.

NGO 'HELP' has filed a complaint with the Punjab State Commission for Protection of Child Rights against Mount Carmel School, Garhshankar and in Hoshiarpur for violating the Right to Education Act, 2009.

In a complaint with commission, NGO's general secretary Parwinder Singh said that these schools have been charging 'high' fee from students, but have not been following the RTE rules. He alleged that under the provisions of RTE Act, 2009, no child could be declared failed, expelled and required to pass the board examination till the completion of elementary education.

However, in its recently announced results, the two schools failed many students below the age of 14. He alleged that the schools were not following a transparent criteria or policy for promoting the students to their next classes.

Requesting immediate action in this regard and to save the future of students declared failed by the schools, he also demanded action from the commission to pass necessary directions to schools for the
