No arrests yet in GNDU college

As many as nine students of Guru Nanak Dev University College (GNDU), Verka, were terminated for their alleged involvement in a group clash and firing incidents on the college premises on Wednesday in which two youths were injured.

Meanwhile, the verka police are yet to arrest the six accused booked in this connection.
Principal Harish Sharma said, "Nine students have been terminated for their involvement in the incident. The termination came following a decision taken by the competent college authorities. In the meantime, the security has been beefed up on the campus."


Gurinder Singh, an outsider, and Simranpreet Singh, a GNDU College student, both in their 20s, were injured by sharp-edged weapons during a scuffle that broke out for the control of the student council of the college.

This is the third incident of brawl at the college between various student groups supported by political parties for control over the student body.

Another incident was reported a few days back when students supported by various political parties clashed outside the college and resorted to firing.

The police had booked six persons, including Jobanpreet and his five accomplishes - under sections 307, 323, 324 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections 25, 27, 59, 54 the Arms Act. "The accused are yet to be arrested. Raids are being conducted at different places," said Parampal Singh, additional commissioner of police (ADCP-City 1).
