The ban on the use of polythene carry bags and thermocol items has come into force in the district from Friday (April 1), but the district administration and the municipal corporation are yet to prepare plans to ensure its implementation.
The lackadaisical attitude of officials on the implementation of the ban can be judged from the fact that it has not even carried any awareness campaigns across the district to sensitise people about the ban. Moreover, no enforcement teams have been set up to carry out special drives for its implementation.
Even residents and vendors are not aware of the ban on manufacturing, stocking, distribution, reuse, selling and use of polythene (plastic) carry bags and thermocol material.
The civic body has failed to install even a single informative hoarding in the city.
Ranjit Kumar, a fruit seller on the Ajit road, said they were not aware of any ban on polythene carry bags as has ordered for them on Friday only.
Another resident Bachittar Singh said he came to know about the ban from newspaper reports only since there was no public announcement.

{{/usCountry}}“However, it is a good initiative to ban the carry bags. As residents are not aware about the ban, therefore, the government should hold awareness campaigns in residential and commercial areas, especially in mandis,” he said.
MC commissioner Anil Kumar Garg said they were preparing a detailed plan to implement the ban across the city. “We will launch awareness drives in coming days, while enforcement teams will be constituted to oversee its implementation,” Garg said.
