Following the doctors’ advice, the Dalai Lama has cancelled his visit to the US scheduled from October 17.

Meanwhile, talking to mediapersons at the Dharamshala airport, he said, “Thorough medical check-up was conducted and my health is good. They have, however, advised me to take few precautions.”

“Any change in my face?” he quipped.

Earlier, interacting with the Tibetan Community in the US on October 1, the Dalai Lama had said that he went to the Mayo clinic for routine health check-ups almost every year. “Even in India, I go for physical check-ups every 6 months,” he said.

The 1989 Nobel Peace Laureate said for the last 2 or 3 years “I have had some minor issues with my knees. A good friend of mine recommended a German doctor, who is a renowned bone specialist. After examining some X-rays, the doctor told me that these things were normal at my age and after all I am 80, not 18 anymore.”

The Dalai Lama was on a visit to the US for a series of public talks and meetings. However, all his engagements were cancelled after the doctors advised him complete rest. The Dalai Lama was to visit the Salt Lake City, Utah, from October 17 to 19, which included an invitation to a world relations conference, a public talk at University of Utah and a dedication of the new Tibetan Association Community Centre.

On October 20, the Dalai Lama was to deliver a lecture to students and faculty at University of Colorado and Buddhist teachings the following day.
