Around 300 computer teachers of local government schools have been languishing without salaries for over a month and will mark ‘Black Diwali’ this year. Moreover, the staff has not been paid arrears which were due in August earlier this year.
While the Chandigarh computer teachers union (CCTU) had received intimation that their salary funds had been conferred, computer teachers are yet to receive their salary for October. “We received the salary for September in the last week of October and it is unfortunate that despite Diwali, we haven’t received the salary for October,” said Sunil, a government school computer teacher.
A notification sent out on November 6 from the finance department, Chandigarh, to all schools read: “All HoDs and DoDs to ensure that salaries of contractual and outsourcing staff till October is disbursed by November. Compliance be reported.” Suresh (name changed) from Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 18, said, “The work of computer teachers has increased manifold; so the least the department can do is ensure we receive our salaries on time.”
The computer teachers are also responsible for carrying out scholarship-related work online, CBSE registrations, send LOC (list of candidates) and grading system online. The three posts in which the local computer teachers are segregated are data enter operators who are paid Rs 15,000 per month, followed by junior computer instructor (Rs 22,000 per month) and finally the senior computer instructor (Rs 30,000 per month). Many contractual employees complain that the load of work on the junior computer instructors is as much as the senior instructors and hence the salary difference was not justified. Sunil added, “The then DPI Kamlesh Kumar had ensured us that he would help revise the salaries for the junior instructors, but then he was transferred.”

{{/usCountry}}Meanwhile, CCTU president Poonam Tapriyal said that the union members would meet the new DPI Rubinderjit Singh Brar to take this up with him and also to ensure that the length and tedious process to transfer salaries to the computer teachers must be revised.
