The candidates prefer personal meetings to sending SMSes or resorting to social media.
The candidates say very few voters in the constituency are techno-savvy. They say the local print and electronic media is the best medium for them to boost their campaign. Besides, personal and mass meetings seem to be effective.

Candidates from prominent political parties -- the SAD-BJP, Congress and Aam Aadmi Party -- are busy holding personal and public meetings in the nine assembly constituencies falling in this parliamentary constituency.

SAD-BJP candidate Kulwant Singh says the party has appointed local leaders to arrange his meetings and they have prepared a roster of his election schedule.

His son, Manpreet Singh, says they are using Facebook to connect with the youth, whereas he does not find other social media useful for the constituency.

"The Congress candidate has been holding personal meetings and no modern technology has been used to woo voters," says Kamaljeet Singh, a party spokesman.

Commenting on technology, he says they are taking the help of the newspapers and the local electronic media but are not using SMSes or social media like WhatsApp, Facebook and Twitter for campaigning.

Congress candidate Sadhu Singh Dharamsot says that even in this era of technology, the personal contact programme has proved most effective for candidates.
