Her husband, Surpreet Arora, from Moga originally but now a naturalised citizen of Australia, was among three people killed on Friday when a Chevrolet Tavera car collided head-on with a stationary heavy truck on the Ludhiana highway near Ajitwal in this district.

The victims (Lal Chand, 60; Surpreet Arora, 30; and Krishan Lal, 60) were all from Moga and followers of Dera Sacha Sauda based in Haryana's Sirsa town. With other colleagues, they were on their way home from Haridwar in Uttarakhand after participating in the cleaning of holy river Ganga when the accident occurred.

The police version suggests that the car was over the speed limit when it crashed into the truck parked on the road. The victims were cremated at Moga on Friday evening, and hundreds of dera followers attended the funeral.

The police have registered a case against truck driver Satvir Singh of Jagraon under Sections 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 337 (causing injuries by endangering the personal safety of others), and 427 (causing minor damage by mischief) of the Indian Panel Code (IPC).
