The Division No. 3 police have booked a non-resident Indian and his father for duping a woman of cash and jewellery on the pretext of marriage.

The case has been registered against Inderjeet Singh of California in the US and his father, Kulwant Singh, following the statement of Manjot Singh of Harcharan Nagar.

Manjot Singh said his daughter’s wedding was fixed with Inderjit Singh. During the engagement ceremony, as customary, the complainant gave money and jewellery to the accused.

Later, however, they came to know that the man had married someone else, without informing them.

Assistant sub- inspector Gurpreet Singh, who is investigating the matter, said cops have booked the accused under Section 420 (cheating) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Cops have launched a manhunt to arrest the accused.
