Nurmahal: Eight arrested for smuggling liquor

The Nurmahal police have arrested eight people on the charges of smuggling liquor. Investigating officer Gurdev Lal Singh said the accused had been identified as Fateh Brar, Surjit Singh, Gurpreet Singh and Sagar, all residents of Abohar; Sarabjit Singh a resident of Gurdaspur; Gill, a resident of Sultanpur; Karmal, a resident of Buta Mandi Jalandhar and Jasbir Singh, a resident of Hussainpur village.

Fourteen cartons of Indian-made foreign liquor had been recovered from their possession and found stored in a rented building.

A case under the Excise Act has been registered. The Mehatpur police also arrested a woman named Beero a resident of Khurampur village with nine bottles of hooch.
