Only car gone, Rs 2cr rise in Majithia’s assets from 2007 to 2012

A multi-millionaire and one of the most powerful ministers in Punjab, Bikram Singh Majithia had no car in 2012, as declared in his nomination papers for the assembly polls.

A multi-millionaire and one of the most powerful ministers in Punjab, Bikram Singh Majithia had no car in 2012, as declared in his nomination papers for the assembly polls.

Majithia, brother-in-law of deputy chief minister and SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal, had a Mahindra Scorpio car worth Rs 7 lakh as per details submitted in the 2007 elections. But five years later neither he nor his wife had a car.

Even the assets of Majithia, who made his electoral debut in 2007, did not see any whopping growth and just grew by a couple of crores. In 2012, assets of his wife worth nearly Rs 3.5 crore were included while in 2007 he wasn’t married.

As per declarations made by him in 2007, he had total assets worth `9 crore. This included moveable property worth Rs 8.3 crores and immovable property worth Rs 80 lakhs, besides the Scorpio.

In 2012, Majithia declared total assets worth Rs 11.21 crore. This included his moveable assets worth Rs 5 crore; bank balance and other deposits Rs 9.5 lakh, and jewellery worth Rs 24 lakh. His wife’s moveable assets were declared worth Rs 43 lakh. In immovable assets, Majithia declared land worth Rs 2. 5 crore and his wife declared land worth around Rs 3 crore. No vehicle was declared.
