In a meeting held here, the members alleged that the party legislators prominently raised the issue in the ongoing winter session of the assembly, but the government was trying to hide the truth and was presenting distorted facts to save the guilty.

“The government has not taken any strict action against the guilty and is giving an assurance that the investigation will be done. This cannot be believed,” the opposition alleged. On the suggestion of BJP state chief Satpal Satti, the leader of Opposition Prem Kumar Dhumal decided to constituted two separate committees to investigate into the matter of illegal tree felling in the two districts.

The committee, headed by Ravinder Singh Ravi, will probe the cases of illegal tree felling in Chamba. The other members of the committee are legislators BK Chauhan, Vikram Jaryal and Hans Raj.
