In a bid to provide quality health services to people in the rural areas, especially to the poor women and children, many schemes are being run successfully in the district, said Abhinav Trikha, deputy commissioner, Gurdaspur here on Sunday.
He said during the current financial year, under Janani Suraksha Yojana, a financial aid of around `17 lakh was disbursed among 2,512 beneficiaries between April and December 2014.
He said under the Janani Shishu Suraksha Programme around `20 lakh was spent to provide to women post-delivery nutritious diet and to conduct free medical checkup of 28,708 beneficiaries, where as `4 lahk was spent on providing free of cost blood to 1,333 beneficiaries.
Trikha said under the Janani Suraksha Yojana, the beneficiaries belonging to BPL, SC or ST families in rural areas were given `700 and in urban areas `600 for delivery in government hospitals and `500 for delivery at home.
Besides, the expenses incurred by the women undergoing institutional deliveries on various tests, ferrying the patient, blood, diet during institutional delivery etc were borne by the health department, he said, adding, these services are free of cost to the beneficiary.
He said under the scheme, a male child is provided free treatment for a year, while a female child for a period of five years.

Trikha said a special drive was initiated to encourage pregnant women for institutional deliveries in government health institutions.
He said to ferry them to the hospitals, 108 ambulance service facilities were made available to around 1,550 beneficiaries.
He said the mobile unit of the health department visited 191 villages and undertook health check-up of 6,914 people and extended lab test facilities to 1,919 patients besides X-ray of 198 and ECG of 149 people.
