The 13-year-old boy, ecstatic after receiving the award from the Prime Minister, said, “I’m so thrilled, and grateful to God for bestowing me with such an honour. I have much more to prove to my parents and myself .” Presently a student of Saupin’s School, Dishant received a medal, certificate and a cash prize from the PM.

His mother, Arch ana Mehndiratta, said she couldn’t believe how her son mustered the courage to knock the knife out of the hands of the intruder, who was holding it to her neck as he demanded valuables. One second Dishant was begging the intruder to spare his mother, and the next second he bounced upon him, took the knife of his hand, and they both managed to overpower the accused.

Inspired by the PM’s speech, Dishant’s father Ravinder Mehndiratta said, “This isn’t the end of everything and Dishant should continue to work hard, continue to do good deeds and not get bogged down by fear.”

The families of the bravery award recipients were also invited for a formal dinner later in the evening.
