In Panchkula, permission has to be taken both from the HUDA and the MC.

The towers which will now be moved are ones at the Sectors 10/15 roundabout, 14, 12, 6, 8, 20/21 and the Bus Stand Chowk.

MC officials claimed the towers were damaging their property as they were put up at public places like berms, near roundabouts, in parks and parking areas in markets. Previously, the local body had issued notices.

“These Cell on Wheels (COW) were stationed illegally across the city without permission from the competent authority. Hence, the power supply has been disconnected and further action is being taken,” said MC commissioner Lalit Siwach.

“Paver blocks have been damaged in Sector 10. Water supply, sewerage and power cables lie underneath. They are also damaged. Who will take responsibility?” said a MC official, adding that property belonging to the MC and HUDA had been damaged and engineers were assessing the loss.

“For long, towers are being installed in the city without permission. It merits investigation on how these illegal towers came up,” said Rakesh Aggarwal, general secretary, Lok Sarvhitkari Society.

“We have due permission for installing sites in Panchkula from HUDA. Permissions were obtained after signing agreement with HUDA and after depositing all necessary fee. We abide by all legal requirements. To avoid public inconvenience, we have shifted some sites to non-residential areas,” a Reliance Jio spokesperson said.
