Pak U-turn: Residents of Sarabjit's village Bhikhiwind hold protests

Angry residents of Sarabjit's native village Bhikhiwind protested against Pakistan today as their hopes of seeing Sarabjit were dashed. Pakistan did a U-turn late last evening, stating that Surjeet and not Sarabjit would be released.

Angered over this complete change of stance, villagers holding 'Pakistan Murdabad' posters on Wednesday raised slogans against the country. The protesters wearing black badges demanded his release and stressed that Pakistan played a cruel joke with Sarabjit's family.

Pamphlets with pictures of Sarabjit were seen everywhere.

Resident Narinder Pal Singh said, "We were praising Pakistan until yesterday and expecting Sarabjit's return but now we feel utterly dejected. We have waited for him for all these years. We appeal to Pakistan to fulfil its promise and release our friend."

"We danced and exchanged sweets on Tuesday evening but now there is a pall of gloom over the entire village. Pakistan must release Sarabjit and give us back our joy," said another resident Kewal Kishen.
