Panel soon to promote organic farming: CM Manohar Lal Khattar

Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Saturday announced that the government is going to promote organic farming in the state and will soon form a committee to advise it in this regard.

Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Saturday announced that the government is going to promote organic farming in the state and will soon form a committee to advise it in this regard.

Addressing farmers from various parts of the country and abroad, gathered at the three-day long 5th national organic farming convention at Sector 26 here, Khattar said the brand name 'Haryana fresh' had been registered. Through the brand, he said, organic food would be provided to people along with beverages.

He said the government would encourage organic farming on 10% area of the total cultivable area in the state, which would be furthered in a phased manner. While referring to decreasing land holdings in agriculture, Khattar said farmers should focus on diversification of farming along with the traditional mode.

Earlier, the state agriculture minister, OP Dhankar, said with a view to increase the income of farmers, the state government is going to introduce 'Gau Sanrakshan Aur Gau Samwardhan' scheme, under which rearing of indigenous cows would be promoted.
