"On the occasion of Women's Day, lectures seminar and discussions are held across the world and rights of women are debated. But the reality is that even today girls are not accepted by their families. The act of abandoning girls and leaving them in Panghoora reflects the hypocrisy of our society," said Ritu Aggarwal, wife of the deputy commissioner who received the child on Tuesday.

She stressed on the need for changing the mindset of the society, saying that in present times, there was no difference between a boy and a girl.

Panghoora, which was set up in 2008 to come to the aid of children who are abandoned by their parents, has received four boys and 61 girls so far.
