Leopard on the loose: Two men injured in Tarn Taran village, search on

A farmer, Kuldeep Singh, was working in the field in the afternoon when he was confronted by the animal hiding amid the standing crop. The animal injured him in his head and neck. He was hospitalised immediately.

Two men were injured in an attack reportedly by a leopard (earlier believed to be a panther) in the fields of the border village, Marhi Gorh Singh, 27km from district headquarters Tarn Taran, in Punjab on Thursday.

After being informed, police led by station house officer, Bhikhiwind, Rajbir Singh, along with officials of the forest and wildlife department, rushed to the fields with arrangements to trap the animal. The villagers also gathered there carrying sticks and some sharp-edged tools. But a two-hour search led to no success.

Note: An earlier version of this report said the animal could be a panther. That information has since been updated as forest officials have said it is a leopard.
