Even as the indefinite strike of paramedics has crippled the working of Patiala’s Rajindra Hospital, the state government is wasting time in departmental procedures instead of finding an immediate solution.

Despite negotiating with the protesting staff at least four times in the past three weeks, medical education department director Dr Manjit Mohi and secretary in-charge Vikas Partap have failed to break the deadlock.
The official flip-flop on the regularisation issue has further deepened the crisis. Last week, Dr Mohi had told HT that the department was working on a one-time policy for regularisation against vacant posts, which will be notified after the approval of the chief minister’s office.
On being questioned about the latest status of the policy on Wednesday, the department secretary in-charge said it is to be put before the cabinet for approval.
“During the recent internal meeting, it was decided that the personnel department will put up the proposal whenever the next cabinet meeting is convened,” he said.

{{/usCountry}}Vikas Pratap said the demand of regularisation was not limited to the medical education department, but was being raised by the staff of several other departments as well.
“We are committed to push for their (staff’s) regularisation, but the matter can only be dealt with at the level of the council of ministers,” he said, while informing that parademics have been called for another meeting on Thursday, where they will be told about the department forwarding their proposal for regularisation to the personnel department for it to be taken up by the cabinet.
