Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on Wednesday appealed to people to cooperate in maintaining peace and harmony besides further propelling the state on the path of growth and prosperity.
In his message addressed on Doordarshan and All India Radio (AIR), the chief minister said he firmly believed that the process of development and prosperity was not feasible without peace and harmony.
Badal said he opposed any sort of conflict or confrontation from the core of his heart. “We have always followed the policy to cooperate and respect everyone and would follow it in future too,” he said.
Without naming any lobby or organisation, Badal said some “anti-Punjab elements” could not digest its progress and were bent on derailing the development and growth in the state. Badal said, “Several conspiracies were hatched in the past to divide people on sectarian lines. We have made stupendous efforts to take Punjab to new heights of glory.”
He cited the recently held Punjab Investment Summit as evidence that Punjab had become a leading state in sectors like agriculture, power generation, health, education and infrastructure development. He said, “The congenial atmosphere and industry-friendly attitude has forced not only Indian but also international business tycoons to invest in the state.”

{{/usCountry}}Badal said a major aspect of the conspiracy to derail Punjab was “to give a bad name to Sikhs by showing disrespect to their history, legacy, traditions and code of conduct”.
He said the SAD-BJP government is committed to maintaining peace, harmony and development in the state. Badal said he would not allow anyone to take law into their hands.
