Heads are likely to roll following complaints of irregularities in the construction of a wrong parking lot at the District Shopping Complex at Ranjit Avenue here.
The matter came to the fore during a meeting of office bearers and members of the District Shopping Complex Association with Anil Joshi, Punjab's industry and commerce, technical education and industrial training minister, on Saturday.
The ambitious project was mooted on the lines of sector 17 in Chandigarh in 1984, but became a reality in 1995.
However, the Amritsar Improvement Trust (AIT) officials claimed that there were no major irregularities in the construction of the parking space.
Members of the District Shopping Complex Association, comprising shop owners and businessmen in the complex, charged the trust with ignoring the norms, which, they said, had hampered their businesses to quite an extent.
The association members said the complex lacked basic civic amenities like sewerage and lights with most of the premises being under the sway of pushcart vendors.
Joshi assured the members of the association a speedy redressal of their problems and action against those found responsible for the irregularities.
He has directed superintending engineer, AIT, Bharat Bhushan, to visit the spot and take stock of the irregularities and to rectify them at the earliest.
Bhushan, meanwhile, said the members of the association were miffed with the haphazard parking of vehicles. "They have demanded a double approach road, besides measures to streamline the parking of vehicles," he said.

However, former AIT chairman Sanjeev Khanna said the parking place was constructed much before he assumed the charge. "There are no irregularities in the construction of the parking. There must have been some other issues that were probably bothering them," he said.
